This plot is located 15 m below a large acid sandstone cliff face. Much of the surrounding communities are similar Quercus / Carya / Pinus varients. The communities vary by which oak dominates and whether pine is present. Above the cliff the community leans more towards the Quercus alba / Pinus strobus. Fifteen meters below the lower plot edge us is an old road. Below that the forest looks to be dominated by Quercus rubra / Carya ovata.;The slope is active, lots of colluvium including large rocks moving down slope. Evident by the larger trees leaning downhill. Fire scars found on the larger trees and charcoal found in the deep (10 cm) organic layer.
Representativeness
This community is a somewhat typical Quercus (alba, rubra, velutina) / Carya (alba, ovata) community . However this plot differs by being slightly drier and is dominated by Quercus velutina.
